The Phillies are up 2-1 in the series and they aint lookin’ back. Not after sneaking away with a win in St. Louis last night. Man, that was tense. The Cardinals apparently did not have a single 1-2-3 inning, offensively, the entire game. Meaning, they were constantly threatening to score, yet they couldn’t manage to overcome Ben Francisco’s three-run shot. Pujols did his best though, going 4 for 5 with 3 (!) doubles. He truly is a machine. Home runs, doubles, and timely singles are basically all that matter, offensively speaking, in the playoffs. A double, especially a lead-off double, gives your team a fantastic chance to score. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, it was too little too late. This game will surely be remembered as a classic if the Phillies make a deep October push. What a fantastically tense win for the Phils–I admit to being purely euphoric after it was over, watching the replay of Francisco’s HR over and over, listening close to the audio of the Phillies bench erupt in celebration, with a huge grin on my face, literally laughing to myself alone in my room. What joy, October baseball!
Oswalt goes for the series win tonight and, considering how sharp he’s been, I’m feeling good. Expect the bats to get back on track and hopefully put this one away early and save me, and the city of Philadelphia, a few grey hairs.
